Hi there! 

Today I decided to make a birthday card out of the City Lights collection, that includes a gift card holder.

I used a stamp by Picket Fence Studios called BFF Girl Shop Hard.  I thought she was a perfect fit for the City Lights paper... sassy and modern!

Copic colours used to color her:  Shirt - B52, Skirt - R24, Accessories - Y19, Skin - E50 and E51.

You can see here that I popped her up with some foam dots to give another layer of dimension to the card.

To start, I cut a sheet of this paper 10" x 7" and folded it in half to have a 5x7" card base.

This graffiti piece was cut 5x7" and the yellow transit card was cut out of the sheet of die cuts and glued on top.

The yellow piece was die cut using Spellbinders "Venice Lace" and glued on top of a piece of light blue glitter paper.

The final layer for the front of the card, is another die cut piece and our Picket Fence "shopper".  This piece was then glued to the front of the card base.

This was the SVG file I purchased to put inside the card.

I altered this diecut and glued it on top of the gift card holder.

I added a little note to the bow that says "Pull up", just so the recipient knows to look further!

And lastly, the back of the card... it's just as pretty as the front!

I'm a Calgary Girl

Hi everyone!

I have been very nostalgic this past week, and as I was going through some old photos from my childhood, I found one of myself shortly after I was born.  Since I was born in Calgary, I started to think about how I could use this photo with the City Lights collection.

I decided to start a mini family album about my childhood and thought my birth would be a good beginning!

This page measures 6" wide x 8" tall.  I find that making smaller pages like this are a good way to use up scraps!

This sketch from Page Maps, was the starting point that I used for my page.

I duplicated the basic shapes on Cricut Design Space, in order to know what dimensions to cut my mats at.

To add some texture and softness in the background, I cut a doily die cut in half, inked it with Antique Linen distress ink, and placed it in the diagonal top and bottom corners of the page.  The paper I used for the doily, as well as the ribbons and other embellishments, were just bits and pieces that I found in my stash that I felt went well with the City Lights paper.

The flair button worked well for the circular image that was shown on the Page Maps sketch.  All paper edges were inked with Antique Linen distress ink, except for the brick wall piece.  On that one I used Rusty Hinge distress ink.

In the photo above, underneath the ruffled ribbon, I placed a strip of paper that I cut from the packaging from City Lights, seen below.  It worked well because the images were smaller versions of the paper collection and are printed on paper that is the same quality. 

In this corner I couldn't resist using some very old pearl bling that I had in my stash.  It is very satisfying to use pieces that you have been hoarding for awhile!

I cut the word "Calgary" from one of the papers in the City Lights collection.  This is a photo of the Calgary skyline in 1957 that I found with a google search. 

I was also able to find out the weather on the day I was born, by going to Weather Underground and entering the date I was searching for.  It was sunny and 77 degrees F!  (25 degrees C for you metric people!)

Illuminasia

Hi everyone,

Welcome back!  Today I used the Wild Whisper "City Lights" collection on a 2nd project. 

To create this double page layout, I used Creative Scrapbookers June Sketch.

The word pages were cut 9x12, the green photo mats were 4.5x4.5, the blue mats were 4x4, and the photos are 3.5x3.5.  I used word strips at the top and bottom of the word pages, and the title was cut out on my cricut.

In 2015 the Calgary Zoo hosted the Illuminasia Lantern & Garden Festival that featured 366 handmade Chinese lanterns.  It was incredibly beautiful and the City Lights paper collection was perfect to highlight all the amazing colours.  My grandchildren were 9, 5, and 1 years old.  The two oldest ones had great fun posing in front of the lanterns, while the littlest one was mesmerized by the lights!

We were at the Zoo to celebrate my daughter Melanie's birthday.  

I kept the embellishments pretty simple on these layouts and just used some of the City Lights flair buttons here and there.

Except for this guy!  This is another cricut cut using the yellow paper from the Back to Basics collection, which I blinged up with sequins from the Talk Foodie to Me collection. 

If you haven't been to the Calgary Zoo, aside from the fabulous animals, they also have a Prehistoric Park full of very realistic dinosaur robots that breathe, move, roar, and even blink when you walk up to them.  My grandchildren love them!

The Chinese lanterns were just incredible and it was a beautiful, out-of-this-world experience to walk through the dark zoo full of glowing, life-sized animals!

I love the bright colours in City Lights, and the city names that we Canadians are familiar with!

Hi everyone! 

It's great to be back with a new project for Wild Whisper this month AND a new paper collection "City Lights"!  This week's creation was inspired by all the flowers and beautiful gardens that I am seeing everywhere.

I chose to use a photo of my front yard for the layout.  About 4 years ago I removed all the grass in the front and planted shrubs and flowers instead.  I have never regretted it!  I love all the colour and variety and the birds and squirrels seem to too!

I sat and did a lot of fussy cutting of succulents last month, with scraps that I had left over from the Wild Whisper Floral collection, so when I saw this terrarium die from The Greetery, I knew I had to have it for my fussy cuts! 

It is topped by another flair button from the Wild Whisper Floral collection.

To start off, I tore strips off the sides of that beautiul brick wall, inked the edges with Gathered Twigs distress ink, and glued it to the piece of wood grain paper in the Wild Whisper Classic Woodgrains collection. 

I cut the garden gate using a Silhouette file called Trellis Arbor which I converted to an SVG file to use in my cricut.  I turned it into a piece of chipboard by adding 3 more layers of the arbor and gluing them all together.  Then I distressed the edges and inked the fence with more Gathered Twigs distress ink.  Finally I embossed here and there on the gate with Wild Whisper's Rugged Red embossing powder.

To get the texture in the background, I applied Dreamweaver Translucent embossing paste through a Tim Holtz  Scribbles Rose stencil.  

I sprinkled the paste with Seth Apter's Vintage Beeswax embossing powder (luscious stuff) and heated it to get the result you see on the brick wall.  I thought it gave the wall a really beautiful effect.

At this stage I added Mini and  Large Art Stones by Art Ingredients, gluing them on with Transparent Heavy Body Gel by Art Basics.  I love this gel when you need to glue on large, heavy pieces (I used it to glue down the garden gate and flowers as well).  It is extremely strong and after it dries it is flexible as well, so all your stones and embellishments don't crack and fall off!

The last mixed media layer on this piece was splattering everything with watered down Walnut Stain distress paint, Lake Mist Adirondack acrylic paint, and Tsukineko's Walnut Ink.  

Lots of depth and layers.

I made this little flower cluster from some of my fussy cut pieces and one of the flair buttons from the Wild Whisper Floral collection.

I love using the art stones on mixed media projects... they look so pretty and give lots of texture.  I glue on the big ones first and then fill in the spaces with the small ones.

More fussy cut flowers, and in this image you can see that I matted the photo with two pieces from the Wild Whisper Small Patterns collection, and then some kraft packing paper that had its edges dipped in walnut ink.

I hope I have inspired you to pull out some paints, stencils and embossing powder and have a little fun!  Don't be afraid to combine different collections.  I find all the Wild Whisper collections coordinate perfectly with each other.  Most of all... don't throw out those scraps... they can be turned into pretty embellishments!
