This is an exciting week for me as I am one of the "Growing in Unity" girls and I will be showing you projects using Unity Stamps each day this week!
It will be an exciting week for YOU as well, because every time you comment at the bottom of my blog posts, your name will go in a random draw at the end of the week. Two lucky winners will each receive a grab bag of 25 random stamps!
It can be hard sometimes to find the comment box, so I've created an image showing you to click where it says "No comments". Once you do, a box will pop up with a place to write your comment. You will find the "No comments" at the very bottom of my post.
For my first card, I chose to use a stamp from an old Kit of the Month, called "Midnight Kisses". You can find this stamp set here.
A sad confession... I was creating my card at midnight last night and had a malfunction with my heat gun. I had a bit of a panic because there was no time to create another card. After debating what to do, I decided to go ahead and show my card as is without the embossing powder melted, and promise to do better tomorrow. If you've ever had this happen to you and were able to set the powder without the heat gun PLEASE let me know in the comments how you did it!!
I was able to finish embossing this card today and thought I'd leave the unembossed one in for comparison (my lighting was a little different and the shot is closer).
I love this girl blowing her happy wishes and love toward the recipient of the card! You can tell she's celebrating and having fun! She's quite a large stamp, as this card is 6" x 6".
The paper I chose to use for the card are from a collection done by Wild Whisper Designs, called "Just Because". The embellishments are from my stash.
That's it for today! See you tomorrow with my next Unity project!!
Linda
She looks great like this. Everyone used her for New Year but I think this is a great idea, she would be great in red with Love for Valentine too
ReplyDeleteLove this color combo. I have the stamp but hadn’t used it yet. My husband and I’d anniversary is January 1st so maybe an anniversary card for next year. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJust love it!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely card!
ReplyDeleteGreat card in spite of the heat tool not cooperating. Looking forward to your 5 days of inspiration
ReplyDeleteBeautiful to me, don’t see any mistakes, looking forward to your creativity
ReplyDeleteI love it, my birthday is New Year's Eve, so this would be a great card for me!! I have stamped my card and used the heat embossing gun and wondered why nothing was happening - well, guess what, I forgot to use the embossing powder! So I need to remember to put the powder next to the gun rather than near the ink pad. Good job.
ReplyDeleteI love this stamp set too, and failed to get it out in time to use it this year! It's hard to tell what colour you wanted the embossing to be - was that white or silver? And as for options to a heat gun...I have been known to try to use my iron on the reverse side of the paper. It depends on how much risk you want to take of something burning! :D Great recovery!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteWhy is there malfunction when you always have a deadline?! You might have tried a curling iron/flat iron. Just make sure they are pre-headed before you give it a go. Honestly, if you wouldn't have said anything I don't think anyone would have noticed the powder wasn't set! Well done. Adorable card too. She's one of my favorite Unity images.
ReplyDeleteI once used my hair dryer with a diffuser on it on low, took a bit but it did set. Beautiful card reguardless.
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty! The silver and that pretty turquoise green is a perfect color combo. I am still working with my original & only heat gun (Marvy Uchida) and hope it lasts me forever! haha
ReplyDeletegorgeous...nice to see a "fellow Canuck"....love the colours used.....and yup try a blow dryer....
ReplyDeleteCongrats on GIU this week. I love your card, the colors are beautiful, can’t wait to see the finished embossing. I’m sure it will just pop. Too bad about your heat gun...I had that happen to me also, had to go purchase another one. Shortly after found one on sale so I hav3 a backup, lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I have used the heat from my stovetop and a hairdryer on low as well to set the embossing powder. Heat from the back so the powder doesn’t blow away. It takes a little linger but it will work. Just be careful not to burn yourself or the paper.
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that! I had a toaster oven at the time, and VERY CAREFULLY held it in the oven with some tongs. It's a great card in spite of the malfunction!
ReplyDeleteLove the card, that is a great stamp. Before I had a heat gun, I used to hold my card over a toaster to melt the powder!
ReplyDeleteI really love the colors! Great card. It makes me feel like I need this kit 😅
ReplyDeleteSorry about the timing of your heatgun failure! Frustrating for sure! But a great card anyway!
ReplyDeleteBefore having a heatgun, I think I tried a lightbulb, heating from the backside of the cardstock....
RIP to your heat gun, but the card is still fabulous. Congratulations in being selected for this week. I am looking forward to your other four days of cards.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that stamp--will have to look at getting that set later. Love the background!
ReplyDeleteI created some of my GUI creations the night before! My heat gun hasn't failed me yet but I've heard stories like yours and I'm paranoid now, LOL. This is gorgeous and will look so shiny and amazing after you set it. The background is lovely. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the card and embellishments you added!
ReplyDeleteLove the card just the way it is , beautiful
ReplyDeleteLove your card! The background is stunning. I used to hold the back of the paper up to an hot iron standing on end long before I ever heard of a heat gun. Nice to find out you are a fellow Canadian too!🇨🇦😊
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors on this card. I am also glad to read the hints on melting embossing powder in the comments. They might come in handy someday.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Linda! Congrats on day one. Looking forward to the next post!
ReplyDeleteLove the card.
ReplyDeleteI once melted embossing powder over a heated toaster, very gently
Wow, lovely card. Congratulations on being the GIU for the week.
ReplyDeleteMore than 35 years ago my Mom and I got talked into buying an embossing ink pad, embossing powder and a snowflake stamp at a Seasonal kiosk at the Mall. The sales girl showed us how to use it. She said you could heat emboss over a light bulb. Believe it or not...it worked. Your card looks great as is. I would never have known that it wasn’t embossed.
ReplyDeleteI've occasionally used the heat from a lamp to set embossing powder. You need to hold very close to a lit bulb, and it's easy to scorch your paper (or your fingers) if you're not careful. Your card is great anyway. Live the color combo!
ReplyDeleteYour card is lovely! Love the color combo and embellishments!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS CARD! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I originally thought of her for New Years, but can see so many other possibilities too!
ReplyDeleteI keep looking at this card, trying to figure out how you did the background. It is so elegant that it cannot be as simple as wiping downward with the ink pad. Very nice....
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteYou're real like the rest of us. Up late creating...last minute...with malfunctions. Welcome to the club! This card is gorgeous. Love the embossing, design, colors, and that girl stamp. Thanks for the inspiration. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is great! Love the colors! I need to emboss with white more!
