This layout is all about the warmth of the sun and good times with family.  In Alberta, our summers are short and our winters are long, so we have to enjoy the outdoors while we can!  I love this photo of my son with HIS son, and just had to scrap it!

For this layout I made use of the Finnibair Honeycomb Resist Canvas sheet that is included in the main kit.  I sprayed it randomly with Color Bloom "Gold Foil" and "Glistening Waves" mist.  Then I stamped it with a texture stamp from my stash and distressed and inked all the edges.  A final step was to mix some of the black Chalk paint from the Mediums Add On, with a little bit of water and splatter it along the bottom.  Then the canvas was glued to a piece of the Blue Fern paper that had also been sprayed with the Color Bloom mists.

Here you can see a piece of corrugated cardboard that I sprayed with the "Gold Foil" mist, glued on some black lace from the Embellishment Add On, and then glued the "Gold Leaf" Mica Flakes over top of that.  The edges of the photo were "pounced" with a small stencil brush, using the black Chalk Paint.

One of my favorite things from the Embellishment Add On, was the Ephemera Pack.  It was just loaded with cute little note cards and die cuts, that I used as background mats for the photo, as well as to create some interest up in the corner..

The flower came from the Flower Add On.  It was too light for this layout, so I sprayed it with the "Gold Foil" mist, and inked it lightly with "Black Soot" distress ink.  The leaves were die cut from the Cardstock Add On using Die-Namites "Leafy Flowers" and sprayed with a combination of "Gold Foil" and "Pressed Petal" mists.

My husband's father passed away last week, and so I have been making some things to place upon the Memorial Table at his funeral.  This is one of the last photos of him that we have.  It was a happy moment, watching as he met his youngest Great Grandson for the first time.  I love how they're both checking each other out with smiles!  :)

When you start with such a beautiful piece of paper, the layout practically makes itself!  Throw in the beautiful Prima Winthrop flowers and Epiphany embellishments, Blue Fern chippies, a pretty Wild Rose Lace die-cut, and you have a match made in heaven!

The pretty chipboard swirls, as well as the wooden Prima birdcage above them, were both painted with "Golden Sleigh Bells" Magical Micas (which came with the September Mediums Add On).  I painted the chipboard with white gesso, before adding the Magical Micas.

This stencil for the masking above, also came in the September Mediums Add On.  It's one of my favorite stencils - it's so pretty.

A sketch by Beggahuna, is always included in a Swirlydoos kit, and this layout is my interpretation of this month's sketch.

The collage below shows how I picked the background paper, distressed the top layer in places where I wanted the background to show through, cut a hole to save some of that beautiful pink paper for other projects, and finished by gluing the top layer over the background.  We have a couple tutorials on the Swirlydoos forum that teach you how to deep distress here and here.

This is a close up of the texture I created using Prima's "Netting" stencil and glass bead gel.  This stencil was included in the Mediums Add On, and I really love the effect you get with it.

I misted the stenciling with LSG "Cosmopolitan Pink" Starburst mist, and then painted here and there with Art Anthology "Cotton Candy" dimensional paint.  I also used the "Cosmopolitan Pink" to paint here and there on the sweet little wooden bow and birdcage embellishments that are included in the kit. 

Below is a close up of how I altered the stunning Blue Fern "Jeweled Frame" that can be found in the "Embellishment" Add On.  I painted it with the Prima black Chalk Paint from the Mediums Add On, and then glued Prima "Plum" glass beads here and there, so it dripped with yumminess.  (And yes... you guessed it... the glass beads are ALSO included in the kit!)

And finally, a close up of the flower cluster I created with tiny flowers from the Flower 

Add On, and more beautiful pieces, such as the black ribbon, the delicate butterfly note card,the large rose, and the beautiful stick pins.  (I painted the butterfly note card with some more of the "Cosmopolitan Pink" mist to tie it into the rest of the layout, and also trimmed it down to fit into the scale of the sketch.)

Swirlydoos Card Round Robin

Hi everyone!  I'm here today to share a card I made for this month's Swirlydoos Card Round Robin.

I was very fortunate to follow Maggi and Paulien in the round robin this month.  They are incredible designers, so I had some wonderful inspiration for this card.

There were 3 requirements to add to your card:  1) a stamped sentiment  2) a tag 3) something rusty.

This was Paulien's card (crazy talented ... right?) which I was to follow:

Here's a tip that I do when I'm in a round robin, and I find I'm focusing too much on the beautiful details of my teammate's card.  I hand draw a little sketch of what they've done and then I use it to fill in with my own details.  (I know it's going to be hard not to laugh at my sketch - I was NEVER known for my drawing ability.  LOL)

Here are the sentiments I used on the card (Flourishes "Tulips for Friends").  The tags, that were included in the beautiful September kit called Vintage Love, are from Prima's gorgeous line "Time Traveler".

My rusty element was my flowers.  I started with one of Prima's Rodanthe flowers and embossed the edges of the petals with Lindy's "Terra Cotta Rust" embossing powder.  

At this point I was thinking "yuck", but I painted on some "Pumpkin" Smooch, sprayed on some TA "Decadence" Chalkboard mist, and things started to look better.

Then I lightly sponged on some "Tuxedo Black" Memento ink here and there.... and I was in love!  LOL.  In order to tie everything together, I painted the pumpkin Smooch on the butterfly, clock, and die cut (from Die-namics "Pretty Blooms").

Festive Friday November Blog Hop

Welcome to the 4th month of the Festive Friday Blog Hop!

In my September Festive Friday blog post, which you can see here, I mentioned that I had made 3 ornaments out of 2 sheets of Frosted paper, 1 sheet of Silver glitter paper, one package of Base and Bling Floral Accents, and using a container of Silver Glitz glitter gel.  I shared the 2nd ornament with you here.
 
Today, I'm going to share with you the 3rd ornament that I made.  This pretty little thing is the smallest of the three:  3-3/4" in diameter.  The bling in the center is a 3rd piece from the Base and Bling Floral Accents collection.  I went all out with the Silver Glitz glitter gel around the edges, and let me tell you, this just sparkles under the lights!

 

The inspiration and tutorial for this was found here. 

 

I used the tutorial's measurements, however, I went about gluing together the cones a little differently.  To begin with, I used Sookwang tape because I wanted the glued edge (which shows on the front of the ornament) to be nice and flat along the whole side.

 

 

Then, in order to keep the cones round and not flatten them as I was gluing, I rolled them around a pen before I pulled the Sookwang off.

 

 

After the Sookwang was removed, I used the end of a paintbrush to press the two sides against.   Again, this was just to keep from flattening the cone.

 

 

 A 2" scalloped circle was cut from Frosted patterned paper to glue the cones down on.  Then I sandwiched my "hanger" between a 2nd scalloped circle cut from Glitter paper.

 

 

I used Aleene's Tacky Glue as I was putting the cones on the circle, because it gave me a little leeway to adjust them and make sure they were looking the way they should, before it dried.

Festive Friday October Blog Hop

Welcome to the 3rd month of the Festive Friday Blog Hop!

In my last Festive Friday blog post, which you can see here, I mentioned that I had made 3 ornaments out of 2 sheets of Frosted paper, 1 sheet of Silver glitter paper, one package of Base and Bling Floral Accents, and using a container of Silver Glitz glitter gel.
 
Today, I'm going to share with you the 2nd ornament that I made. 

 

I was inspired by this tutorial, to make this ornament.  I chose to use CTMH silver Glitter paper instead of crepe paper however, and made a few other changes.

 

To start with, you cut a piece of paper 8x12".   Score every 2" along the short side.  Accordion fold on the score marks. 

 

 

 

Cut the Glitter paper into two 2x12" strips.  Glue the bottom of these strips into the "folds" of the paper.

 

 

Cut this strip into three 4" pieces, and then make the smaller "fringe" cuts as the tutorial shows.  Cut a 2" scalloped circle from the Glitter paper, to glue your fringes to.  Start molding and twisting each of the three fringed pieces to the circle.  Make sure you glue each piece down securely.  I used Aleene's Tacky Glue.  Also use a stamp block to squish the layers level, as they are very thick. 

 

 

The Glitter paper is a little stiff (go slowly and gently), and it looks kind of funny at the start, but each layer looks better and better as you go.  You can see this from the 3 pictures below as the stack grows higher.  Keep adjusting to cover any bare spots.

Cut another Glitter paper scalloped circle and glue to the top of the stack.

 

Add a piece of the Base and Bling Floral Accents to the center and fluff up the fringes to your liking.  The glimpses that you are able to see of the Glitter paper is sooooo pretty!  (The picture doesn't do it justice.)

 

 

 The ornament is quite thick and is 5" in diameter.

Festive Friday September Blog Hop

Well, I had such a FUN day today!  I feel like I should be wishing you all Merry Christmas!  because I spent the afternoon making Christmas ornaments.  I LOVE doing this right now when there isn't any of that holiday stress!!  There is nothing like glitter and pretty paper to put a smile on your face!  
 
I made 3 ornaments today, out of 2 sheets of Frosted paper, 1 sheet of Silver glitter paper, one package of Base and Bling Floral Accents, and using a container of Silver Glitz glitter gel.
 
This post would be far too long if I showed all 3 at once and how to make them, so I will be featuring one every Festive Friday from now until November.
 
The first one is my favorite, and super easy to make!  It's quite a large ornament - 6" wide x 10" long - and it sparkles from top to bottom!

 



To make this ornament, I adapted the tutorial that you will find here.  For the center piece, I cut a piece of silver Glitter paper 1"x12", folded it in half and glued it together to make a 6" strip.  Next I cut 2 pieces that were 1"x7"  and 2 pieces that were 1"x9", from both the silver Glitter paper and the Frosted paper.  I glued a Frosted piece and a Glitter piece together.  (I did this to make the strips a little sturdier.)  Now you will have 4 strips of paper that are glittery on one side, and patterned paper on the other.  Making sure that the tops of all the strips are flush, put the shorter strips on the inside, the longer ones on the outside, and staple them together.  Then do the same at the bottom of the ornament.

 The picture below shows the strips with the patterned side and the glittered side.

 

 

 

To make the medallion, I used a snowflake punch for the center, a 2" scalloped punch for the next layer, and a 2-7/8" scallop punch for the bottom layer.  (I cut 3 pieces of the bottom layer and glued them all together so that it would be sturdier.)  Then of course, that's a piece of the Base and Bling Floral Accents package, on top of everything.  So pretty!

 

 

In order to attach the medallion, I made little brackets out of scrap Glitter paper and glued them to each side of the center strip.  I forgot to take a photo of the front side, but the 2 brackets side by side make a flat surface to glue the medallion on. 

 

 



For the bottom tassel, I glittered up the edges of a white rose with the silver Glitz Glitter Gel, and tied some tassels from Color Ready Seam Binding Ribbon that I had crinkled.  (Spray with water, crunch in a ball, dry while it's still crunched up.)  I made the bow at the top from the same crinkled ribbon.  The pearls, etc. were from a Christmas garland that I got in the clearance  section at Michael's after Christmas.  I cut bits and pieces of it and then twined them all together.

 

And there you have it!  One Christmas ornament that is ready to hang on the tree, hang in the window, or even be attached to a gift bag!
