Showcase Monday at Scrapbooker's Paradise

Good Morning Everyone!

I'm filling in over at Scrapbooker's Paradise today, so thought I'd share the card I made and a quick little tutorial.

To make the background for my focal piece on the front of the card, I dropped 3 different colours of Distress re-inkers on top of an acrylic block and sprayed them with water to get them blending together and moving around.  Next I took a piece of watercolor paper, misted it with water and placed it on top of the block, gently patting it down but not swirling it.  I lifted it straight up off the block and dabbed it with a paper towel to remove the excess ink from the watercolor paper.

I had enough ink on the block to do this a second time.  Then I just stamped my image using Versafine ink and cut it out with a circle die.  I finished it off by going around the edge with a Chalk Marker from CTMH.

Have a great week everyone!

Linda

Artbooking in August #4

Welcome back everyone to the last week of our Artbooking in August 2013 Blog Hop!
If you came from Jen Patrick’s blog, you are on the right track!

My project this week is a mini album.  I chose to make my mini-album fit inside the CTMH Kraft Binder.

I decided I wanted to make pages with different edges and this is what I came up with.  I created them by manipulating the photo mats in Cricut Craft Room.  Important tip:  When sizing your pages to fit the binder, make sure you don't go any bigger than 8".  The binder looks like it will hold larger pages but it is DECEIVING!  Trust me .... I know!!  Also, after manipulating the images, remove the binder holes with the "hide contour" button, because they will not be sized correctly to fit the binder.  I just punched mine in afterwards. You will find a CCR file for the above pages that you can download here.

I have a collection of beautiful pictures and affirmations that I get from www.facebook.com/beginwithyes, and I wanted to print them out and keep them where I'll look at them more often, so that was the inspiration for this binder.  I only have 3 pages done so far, but will add more at a later date.

Haunted House treat bag

Hi everyone,

I had so much fun with that treat bag yesterday, I decided to get busy and make one for my grand-daughter also!

She's 5 and loves lots of sparkle and glitter, so I decorated this one up with some bling from assorted packages:  Laughing Lola Assortment, Bitty Sparkles, Sparkles Assortment, and Base and Bling Floral Accents.  I also smeared Stardust Glitz Glitter Gel all over the haunted house. The ribbon was in my stash.

Here's a tip for the ribbon.  I like to use Sookwang (Scor Tape) to neatly fold the raw edges with no hassle.  Once I did that, I just stapled them to the bag.  (I want them to be attached sturdily because these are going to be going to two, small, excited-for-Halloween, children.)

If you would like the Cricut Craft Room file that I created for this, you will find it here.

Ok, I think I'm done with Halloween for awhile!
Have a great day everyone!

Artbooking in August #3

Hi!  Welcome back to the Artbooking in 2013 Blog Hop!  Haven't the past couple of weeks been very inspiring!!  I sure have learned a lot from my fellow bloggers!

If you came from Jen Patrick’s blog, you are on the right track!

One of the things I was inspired to do this week, was to get a little more familiar with the Cricut Craft Room.  What a fabulous tool that is!  I was able to design my project for this week and size all my little embellishments to fit, so quickly and easily.  If you have a Cricut, I would encourage you to take the time to make yourself familiar with this software that can be downloaded for free at Cricut's website.

My project this week was inspired by a post made by a friend of mine, Dianne.  She made the sweetest little purses from paper bags and shared the link to the tutorial.  As much as I loved the purses, my mind went to Halloween treat bags right away.

Aren't they just adorable???

And look at all the room for candy!!!!  My grandchildren are going to be very happy with me this year!!  :)

If you are interested in a tutorial and a Cricut Craft Room file for this,
please go to the bottom of my post.

Ok it's time to head on over to Brenda Rose’s blog where you are going to be absolutely delighted by what you see!

Once again, if you should get lost along the way, click on this badge:

Tutorial:

Supplies required:
One small adhesive Velcro dot
One small paper lunch bag (5-1/4x 11”)

Cut the following by hand (the rest will be cut using the Cricut Craft Room file):

One black cardstock 4-1/4 x 5-1/2”
One black cardstock 5-1/2 x 6-1/4” – score this at 2”
One piece of cardstock 10 x ¾” for handle, or use lace, ribbon, etc.  (I used several lengths of Grey Wool twine, twisted together.)
One piece of patterned paper 4-1/4 x 5-1/4” (I used LaughingLola.)

Cut by Cricut Craft Room file that can be found hereLaughing Lola patterned paper, Goldrush cardstock, Whisper cardstock, Black cardstock.

Cut the paper bag at 4".

Glue black cardstock to paper bag.  Round the corners of the cardstock, if you wish.

Cut your cricut file pieces and embellish the purse.

I save everything and anything, LOL.  I made my twine handle, stapled it to the bag, tied these pieces on and glued the cat and the owl to them.  The Velcro is glued under the circular graveyard scene, to hold the bag closed.

Enjoy making your little treat bags!

Thank you for joining me once again for the Blog Hop!
The lovely comments everyone has been leaving have really made my day!!

See you next week when I will be completing the final requirement
of the blog hop - a mini album!

Don't get your Tinsel in a Tangle!!

Hi everyone!  Welcome to the " CTMH Festive Friday Blog Hop"!!

You are going to find some wonderful Festive projects that have been designed for this hop from our new Autumn/Winter Idea Book.  We will be doing one a month from now until December.

Our path is circular  so just follow the links. If you should get lost, the starting point is here, at The Happy Scrapbooker.  Our host for this blog hop is Diane Tuggle.

You should have arrived here from Carol's blog.

I chose to make a small Thanksgiving canvas for my wall.  I love the colours of the Huntington paper pack ... they totally match the colours in my house ... and the canvas looks lovely by the kitchen table.

I started with the CTMH 6x6" canvas, and inked the edges with Barn Red and Autumn Terracotta.  Then I distressed and inked the edges of a couple of scrap pieces from the Huntington paper pack.  I also distressed the edges of the sentiment card and inked them with the above two colours, as well as Cocoa.

After gluing the paper onto the canvas, I cut apart one of our little burlap bags, frayed the edges, and glued it down.  Because I like the shabby, distressed look, I left the wrinkles in the bag.

To embellish the canvas I used a little bit from several different embellishment packs.  The bow was made with the Dark Chocolate Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Seam Binding, and a flower from the Frosted Assortment pack. (The cotton string is the string from the Burlap bag.)  Other embellishments used:  Rosewood Mini-Medley Accents Collection, Jute Ribbon, Mini-Medley Accents Wooden Collection, Sparkles Brown & Tan Assortment, Huntington Assortment, and the Huntington Stickease Assortment.

Thanks for joining us on this blog hop.  I know you're going to see some really great projects along the way.  It's time now to head to Jaime's blog!

It's Wild Wednesday at Scrapbooker's Paradise!

Hi everyone!

I was playing with paints and stencils this week, and am sharing all the details on how I made the background for this layout, here at Scrapbooker's Paradise.

*Please note, when I posted this blog last night, I forgot to give credit to Kelly Foster, a fantastic mixed media artist, who is always very willing to share techniques, etc.  She taught us a background technique at Flying Unicorn, using this stencil and I modified it a wee bit to work with materials that I had on hand.  You can check out Kelly's work at her blog here.  I promise you will be so inspired!

Here's a close up showing how textured and sparkly it is.

I thought I would share with you how I altered the bird chippy; and also what I did to the flowers to make them blend into my layout a little better.

The bird chippy was first painted with Gesso,  and then a coat of Kenyon Copper Sorbet.  Then I just painted here and there with the Mayan Gold Velvet and the Wineberry Velvet, added a little Chocolate Sorbet, and misted in spots with the Guacamole.

The chippy was a little large, so I cut it up to use here and there on my layout.

Next, I wanted to use this flower vine, but it wasn't the right colour.

So I painted it with Gesso.

Then I painted it with the same mix of paints that I used on the chippy.  I always use the light colours on the petals, and the darker colours in the centers.  To darken the center of the large rust coloured flower, I painted on some TA Tattered Leather Glimmer Mist and just flicked it outward.  The medium sized flower was too white, so I painted it with a coat of Chocolate Sorbet and it was perfect!

I think the flower cluster looks much better now!

And finally, the little tags that I tucked under the photo, were cut from cardstock.  I then used Frayed Burlap Distress Ink and the Crackle stencil from Prima to distress them.  I had some left-over Bo Bunny Trail Mix stickers from another project, so I cut them out and applied them to the tags, distressed the edges and I was done.

Thank you for stopping by today!  Be sure and check out my how-to on the background (here) because it was a lot of fun and I know you will want to try it too!!

Artbooking in August #2

Welcome back to Artbooking in August 2013!  We're here again to show you more projects from CTMH's new Cricut Artbooking Collection.  Last week's projects were so phenomenal and this week over 35 creative consultants are at it again!

Last week I showed you a 2 page layout done with the Artbooking cartridge, and this week I will be showing you a card.

If you should get lost along the way, click here
and you will be taken to our wonderful coordinator, Adeline Brill's blog,
where she has posted a list of all those participating!

If you came from Jen Patrick’s blog, you are on the right track!

A team mate of mine from Scrapbooker's Paradise, created a beautiful all white card last month (click here to see it) which inspired me to see if I could create a similar one using the Artbooking cartridge.

Turns out, it was very easy to do, using a combination of buttons from different pages.

I began on Page 47 and cut out the overlay at 6".  I also cut the icon the same size.

I just love the leaf vine that I found on Page 72.  I played around with the real dial size button and cut out two of the vines.  (I'm sorry, I forgot to write down the size that I ended up using.)

Next I found the beautiful butterfly on Page 62.

The oval was cut using a punch from my stash, and the stick pin is one I made myself.
Then it was just a matter of arranging everything, adding a ribbon, and trimming with
CTMH Bitty Opaques Pearl Adhesive Gems.  Both the frame and the
sentiment oval were attached with 3D Foam Tape.

This card was a lot of fun to make!  I hope you are inspired to try one yourself!
Thanks for stopping by my blog today. See you next week!

Now it's time to head on over to Brenda Rose’s blog where you are going to be absolutely delighted by what you see!

Sketch Challenge at Scrapbooker's Paradise

Good Morning everyone! Another cool, cloudy day in the Foothills, what a summer it's been!  Rain, rain, and more rain.  But we're warming the day up over at Scrapbooker's Paradise with a new sketch challenge that is being hosted by Selena.

Selena Cantafio

I chose to flip this sketch, as the photos I was working with were vertical ones.

For a period of time this summer, our garage door would have many beautiful white moths on it in the morning, and my granddaughter was totally entranced with them.  She would hold them in her hands and chat with them as if they were long lost friends.  She was in a magical world of her own, and that's why I had to go back to this paper line, Enchanted Garden by KasierCraft, to do this layout!

To make the border, I cut the diamond shape out with a craft knife, and rolled each section back using the handle of a paintbrush to get a nice smooth roll.

Some backing paper was placed behind and then I cut a Cheery Lynn doily in quarters and tucked it inside.

You'll have fun with this sketch, so come on over to Scrapbooker's Paradise and give the challenge a try.  You don't have to have a blog to enter and you can use whatever supplies you like.  You will find the instructions, near the bottom of the challenge, here.

While you're there, check out my teammates' projects they've done - in a word - AWESOME!!

Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for stopping by!
Linda

Supplies used:
Rose Ribbon from my stash (Several pretty colours can be found here.)
Flowers & stick pins from my stash
Zva Pearl Flourish which I cut in half.

Showcase Monday at Scrapbooker's Paradise

It's my turn to host Showcase Monday today, and I chose to feature paper (Sunrise Sunset) and embellishments (Vintage Mechanism) from one of my favorite designers Finnabair.

I tried to capture some of the lusciousness Finn achieves with her layers of paper, paints, stamps, and flowers, etc.

Painting the canvas letters was quick and easy with a mixture of Silk paints, Shimmerz Dazzelerz, and Art Anthology Sorbet.

First I put a very light coat of Olive Vine Silks here and there on the letter.

Then I added a light coat of Honey Amber Silks to cover the white areas.

The Lemon Drop Dazzelerz was next.  It has a thick consistency and I dabbed it along the left side of the letter where I wanted it to look like the sun was hitting.

To make the right side look a little shadowed, I added Art Anthology "Drab" Sorbet.  It is a thick paint also, so again, I just dabbed it on lightly.

For the rest of the supplies used on this layout, as well as a special SALE, please check my post at Scrapbooker's Paradise.
Thank you so much for stopping in.  I have really appreciated the comments everyone leaves for me!

Hope the rest of the week is GREAT!!
